I've been an advocate of stricter gun laws for as long as I can remember. And it's tempting to bring up the obvious in the face of a tragedy as unspeakable as the murders at Sandy Hook Elementary, but please...stop. Just for now. I am so disappointed that President Obama turned political during an event of mourning. I was not pleased with Rachel Maddow's politicizing - and I love her. There are others I haven't heard, I'm sure - some on the other side of the fence. But here's the deal:
These families are hurting more than most of us can imagine. They are unified by grief, but not by politics. Some of them may still be gun advocates. Others may be more like me...or Obama...or Rachel. These debates may come with the best of intentions, but they are occurring at the wrong time.
Let the bodies get cold. Let the funerals take place. Let the holidays go by. And then, by all means, HAVE AT IT!
